Doesn't James down picks every single note? I also sometime feel that he legato/slides some power chords instead of down picking every single black note (especially in the riff behind the solo).
Gallop rhythms are not down-picked. And yes, some power chords are played with legato phrasing (sliding into), as demonstrated in the video!
@@chiscoi of course gallops can't be downpicked. I should have said James downpicks every single eighth note. Those legato power chords make the riff way easier than all the tutorials I saw saying every single eighth note power chord must be downpicked.
@@GrandPapa16 without the legato ascending power chords the riff never breathes and sounds a bit choppy. And yes, down pick those 8ths! The most important thing is to lock in and get the feel/groove right.

It's funny. I read the title of this video and knew it would be this. I heard it once in a guitar track only. Kinda wierd but cool too. I just can't be bothered with the stretch when I play it, so I just stick to the standard F power chord. Great observation though.

Right, you can find sus2 chords in clean and acoustic parts, but rare in their distorted/main riffs. Quite prog rock!

That is indeed an extremely rare chord for riffs in their catalog! Probably the only time I've heard it is in that song, and it's really buried in the mix. I had to watch a bunch of concerts to see if James ever played it, and was able to find a video of AJFA in Mexico City in 2012 where he was reaching for that each single time!

I should clarify that I meant that this chord is rare in their distorted/main riffs catalog. It’s a pretty prog move chord wise. I think of clean parts/acoustic intros, etc. as a separate category and there is definitely more variety in that.
